Currencies are traded in pairs, which are classified into three types: Majors, Minors, and Exotics.

Major Currency Pairs

The major currency pairs are ranked as most popular currency pairs in the Forex market. The traditional ‘four majors’ are – EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/USD, and USD/CHF. The three most-traded ‘commodity currencies’ are AUD/USD, USD/CAD, and NZD/USD.

Minor Currency Pairs

Minor Currency pairs are those which don’t contain the US dollar. Examples of highly-traded cross currency pairs include: GBP/EUR, EUR/CHF, EUR/JPY

Exotic Currency Pairs

Exotic currency pairs are ranked third as the most traded in the forex market. These currency pairs are made up of a major currency pair paired with the currency of a developing economy. Such as the USD/HKD and the USD/NOK.
